Balvenie-15, Single Barrel "The Bad Order Scotch"
So, there we are, the P.L.O.W.E.D. Society, sitting once again by the fire with some new SMS to taste. We made a grave mistake that fateful night. You better prepare yourself, and DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!
We had three bottles in front of us, Glenmorangie, Port Wood Finish, Macallan-18, and Balvenie-15, Single Barrel, the SMS in question. We had, of course, tasted the Macallan, and in fact, this was our third bottle this year. However, we had not tasted the other two.
Mistake number 1:
We tried the Glenmorangie first. It was incredible to say the least. Rated it a 99.
Mistake number 2:
We drank the Macallan second, wanting to compare the first with it to see which was
better.
Fatal Mistake number 3:
We drank the Balvenie last!
Even though the Balvenie was better on the second go-round and scored in the mid-80's, it got a bum rap from the panel after tasting the Glenmorangie and Macallan. It suffered from being drank in the wrong order. A BAD ORDER.
Perhaps if we would have tasted it first instead of last it would have gotten a better say? Quite possibly, if we would have tasted ,say Loch Dhu-do instead of Macallan, the Balvenie would have gotten raved on. Who knows!?
